Difference between green and blue airports @ FR Enroute Chart

In Low Altitude IFR Enroute Chart, what is difference between green and blue airports? The defintion from the legend is confusing for me. It says airports blue or green have an approved instrument approach published. Those in Blue have an approved instrument approach in at least the high altitude DOD Flips. The wording used is confusing.

How tight should the flaps control rod be?

Hey, I typically rent a Cessna 172 Skyhawk and had an instructor tell me before that the flaps control rod should be slightly loose with some play. I recently moved and a got new instructor and during the preflight check, he's telling me that it should be tightly bolted.

Which is it? does it matter?

I'm in the middle of getting my PPL and am looking to purchase a plane. I took a flight with a Cirrus SR22 and I really love it. However, I did some research and it looks like it has one of the highest fatality rates. Why is that? It looks like Cirrus has some really nice and safe features but why is it considered the most dangerous?

How to pick a plane for training? Confused because of huge number of options available

Hello experts!

I'm in the process of getting started with my training. I have shortlisted a CFI and club, but I'm confused about the type of plane to pick from. Based on my analysis and price range, I'm thinking of going with C172. But want to make sure that I'm picking a right one. Also, majority of the planes at that club are from 1980's. Is it safe to be inside a plane that old? What other factors I should consider.

Confused, please help.

Scared of landing solo!! Thoughts?

Should I go for solo or spend more time flying? Any tips on how to be more comfortable for my solo landing will be really appreciated.

I have my PPL and have been flying with my friend a few times for fun. I was wondering if I could ask him for some money to split the expenses such as fuel and plane rental. I know I'm not allowed to charge for the flight since I'm not commercial.

Scared of landing solo!! Thoughts?

I am working on my private pilot's license for almost a year now. Busy with work and newborn. In total, I have around 50 hours of flight time with my amazing CFI, but I 'm still scared to land solo. Thought of final approach by myself scares the hell out of me. MY CFI thinks I could do it, but I am looking for additional expert thoughts as I have a newborn now.

Should I go for solo or spend more time flying? Any tips on how to be more comfortable for my solo landing will be really appreciated.

Thoughts on Cirrus SR22?

I'm in the middle of getting my PPL and am looking to purchase a plane. I took a flight with a Cirrus SR22 and I really love it. However, I did some research and it looks like it has one of the highest fatality rates. Why is that? It looks like Cirrus has some really nice and safe features but why is it considered the most dangerous?

I really like flying in it but I want to make sure it's safe too. What do you guys think?

Drone operator license

I am looking to get my Remote Pilots License so I can operate drones commercially due to FAA's new regulations. However, they aren't granting anybody Section 333 exemptions right now and I think the Part 107 test is only coming out in late August. Is there any other way that I can pilot a commercial drone this month?

Thanks everyone!

Dual rated? or fixed wing only?

Hey guys, I just got my PPL for fixed wing aircraft and am thinking about which one to go for next. I feel like I really want to go for a career as a helicopter pilot and was wondering would it be better to get my IFR and commercial in fixed wing or should I go for a helicopter rating first. I heard some one going for the fixed wing certifications first and then helicopter since it will be cheaper.

Any ideas?

Do hours flown in other countries count?

Should I fly solo?

I have about 19 hours of flight time with instructor logged and I really want to try solo flight. My CFI wants me to practice some more before doing so. I'll probably do that but I'm curious. How long does it usually take people to try solo flight?

Hey everyone! I've been flying for about 5 months now and I'm considering getting an iPad app to help me plan my flights and for in-flight support. Do you guys have any suggestions?

I was looking at Foreflight and Garmin Pilot, but I'm open to any other suggestions that people have had good experience with.

It's almost 2 years since I flew last

Hi,
I had started pilot training in 2014 but had to discontinue after 6 months and around 50 hours of flight due to some personal problems. I didn't fly solo, though.
Now I want to resume my training. What is my current status as per regular norms? Do I need to start from scratch again?

Training with Instruments

I was wondering if it's better to train with a glass cockpit or with steam gauges. My flight school pretty much only has planes with steam gauges but I was wondering if it's easy to transition between the two.

I just got my LSA certification and I was thinking about getting an Instrument Rating. But I couldnt seem to find what it's actually for. Is there a specific type of type that requires it?

Concerns with CFI

Hey everyone. I have been taking lessons from a CFI for a few months now. Recently I have been having some concerns around his teaching and my confidence in him has been a little shaken too.

I'm a bit worried since it seems like he doesnt know whats going on sometimes. We had a stall and barely recovered.

What should I do? Should I confront him or start looking for a new CFI?

How do I choose a flight school?

Hey, I'm from the Dallas area and have been doing some research on flight schools. It seems that the more flight hours I can get, the better. But all the schools offer packages at different rates and "promised" hours.

Do you have any advice for someone starting out and the type of training that I should look for?

How to pick a plane for training? Confused because of huge number of options available

Posted By: CARLOSB
Posted On: Thursday, June 16, 2016 10:11 PM

Hello experts!

I'm in the process of getting started with my training. I have shortlisted a CFI and club, but I'm confused about the type of plane to pick from. Based on my analysis and price range, I'm thinking of going with C172. But want to make sure that I'm picking a right one. Also, majority of the planes at that club are from 1980's. Is it safe to be inside a plane that old? What other factors I should consider.

Confused, please help.

How to choose a CFI from a long list of flight instructors at a flying club?

I'm about to take my flight lessons for private pilot with a flying club. Club management showed me the list of instructors and I don't know which one to pick from the list.

Is Gold Seal a differentiating factor? How important is flying hours over instructor hours as one of the instructor I liked has more flying hours than instructor hours?

Please help!
