    Job Summary:nbsp;
    The ATR Captain will be responsible for the safe, smooth, efficientnbsp;operation of the aircraft in compliance with Empire Airlines policy andnbsp;procedures and FAA regulations.

    #183;Safely maneuver aircraft in all phases of flight; check all conditions concerning the flight, including weather, cargo safety and nbsp;verify go/no-go decision; verify fuel requirements and related weather variables and assure proper loading; make alternate destination decision should the intended destination not be available.
    #183;Be in command of all situations as they arisenbsp;relating to any unusual circumstances occurring during the flight; maintainnbsp;responsibility for all communications during the flight with stations, towers, flight controllers and dispatchers; file all reports required by the FAA andnbsp;report any unusual behavior of the aircraft in flight to proper dispatch ornbsp;maintenance personnel; maintain proper records of flight hours in conjunction with Dispatch to assure proper FAA rest requirements and Company directives are met;

    Geisinger Health System is a not-for-profit, fully integrated health services organization serving Central and Northeast Pennsylvania. LifeFlight is a component of the health system's response to critical care transport needs with 7 air ambulances operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from 5 locations in Central and Northeast PA.

    Working under the direction of the Aviation Operations Director, the Pilot-in-Command (PIC) is responsible for the safe and efficient conduct of a flight assignment. The pilot-in-command and is authorized by Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) to process a flight assignment received from the Life Flight Communications Center and determines whether to accept or decline a flight assignment based on weather conditions or other factors that may impact the safety of flight. The Pilot-in-command will evaluate Visual Flight Rules (VFR) options and Instrument Flight Rule (IFR) options when applicable. A fully credentialed pilot will be NVG and a single pilot (IFR) captain. Works collaboratively with other members of the flight program.



    EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE:

    1.Required to meet all the qualifications for an IFR captain set forth in 135.243(C). Additionally: 1700 total flight hours with a minimum of 1000 helicopter hours, 1000 hours Pilot in Command time, 1000 hours of Turbine engine time and 100 hours of Night flight hours required. A minimum of 25 hrs. of actual Instrument experience preferred. 2. IFR transition: All pilots will begin employment as a VFR captain. IFR certification will be complete within 180 days of hire with a maximum of 10hrs allotted for the VFR to IFR transition. New hires will be considered on probationary status until IFR certification is successfully completed. 3.NVG transition. All pilots will begin employment a Non-NVG captain. NVG certification will be complete within 180 days of final FAA NVG approval. A minimum of five and a maximum of 10hrs allotted for the NVG transition. Employees hired after FAA NVG approval will be on the 180 day schedule to complete this certification and will be considered on probationary status until NVG certification is successfully completed. 4. Commercial helicopter license with IFR rating required. 5. ATP license preferred. 6. FAA Class II Physical Medical Certificate required. 7. Helicopter EMS experience preferred. 8. Night Vision Goggle (NVG) experience preferred
